Damask Rose Water (steamed distillate rosa damascena)
Description
What is Damascus Rose Water?
Our wonderful Damask Rose Water (steamed distillate rosa damascena) is made purely from rose petals grown and picked on the Jabal Akhdar mountain in northern Oman and steam-distilled in the centuries old method employed by the petal growers. This means that the water retains as much of the precious rose oil as is possible giving it its subtle smell and healing properties. It’s rich in antioxidants, polyphenols and vitamin C that fight aging and restore skin health. It also balances oil, reduces redness, tones, hydrates and contains anti-inflammatory properties while it visibly brightens skin.
Until now you would need to travel to the Jabal Akhdar mountain to purchase this elixir but in partnership with local growers we are proud to bring it direct to your letterbox.
Steam Distilled in the traditional way

Once a sufficient amount of roses have bloomed, usually about 2 kg worth, they are plucked and kept covered under a wet blanket for three to six hours.
The damp roses are then placed in 15-litre pots, and a small copper bowl, known as tasar/salha, is placed on top of them. The opening of the pot is sealed with a wet fabric and a fire is lit below the pot.
Within 30 minutes the vapour starts evaporating off the rose petals. This creates a condensation on the surface of the wet cloth, which in turn drips back down into the copper bowl. It takes nearly three hours for the copper bowl to fill. The liquid is then poured into another vessel, the burnt petals are replaced with fresh ones, and the process begins all over again. The rosewater is then left to settle for 3 months
How to use Rose Water

A solo rose water spray is a lovely way to harness all of the longer-term skin health-building benefits of your skin tonic while giving your skin’s outer layer an immediate moisture boost.
Do this any time of the day that your skin feels like it’s lacking moisture (particularly if you are in air conditioning or dry heat for long periods of time).
Damp skin cells are more porous, so applying a spritz of your skin tonic before moisturising will add beneficial plant compounds as well as preparing your skin to receive the next products in your routine.
In essence, your skin uses a combination of water and oil to keep itself healthily supple, hydrated and soft
If your skin is particularly dry or dehydrated we recommend that as a final step you press in a moisturiser that has ingredients that will provide a barrier to stop the release of moisture from the skin’s surface
Would you buy a diamond ring that did not have a diamond in it?

Rose oil is very expensive – nearly £20000 a litre! So many sellers continually distil their petals until all of the oil has been removed, leaving basically water. Our rose water is only distilled once so that it retains as much rose oil as possible.
Always ensure that your rose water bottle clearly says “Steam distillate” so that you know you are buying rosewater that will have the important microbial oils to help your skin get better.
Avoid products that say “Rose Hydrosol” “Rose Flower/Water/FloralWater” or Rose Flower Extract”
